A red light-emitting gallium phosphide device according to claim 1 wherein said p-n junction consists of the n type GaP substrate, n type GaP layer formed on said substrate by liquid phase epitaxial growth and p type GaP layer superposed on said n type GaP layer similarly by liquid phase epitaxial growth.
