Claim 1
Independent Claim
116 words
A process for the production of carbon black pellets while controlling the cake buildup comprising a. introducing carbon black and a pelleting liquid into a pelletizer having an inner surface maintained at a temperature above about 212° F.; b. moving a series of mixing elements through the carbon black and the pelleting liquid thus forming a mixture; c. jetting a plurality of fluid streams through said mixing elements against said inner surface of said pelletizer for periods and in an amount sufficient to prevent carbon black cake buildup and hardening on said inner surface; d. forming carbon black pellets from said mixture during said mixing step; and e. recovering the carbon black pellets from said pelletizer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
30 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein said fluid streams are expelled toward said inner surface at velocities greater than about 3/4 of the acoustic velocity of said fluids.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
14 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein said fluid streams are wet steam.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
45 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein said mixing elements are moved by a motor, the power of said motor is sensed by a power-sensing element delivering a signal and the introduction of the pelleting liquid into said pelletizer is controlled by said signal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein said fluid streams are introduced intermittently against said inner surface of said pelletizer.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
27 words
A process in accordance with claim 1 wherein the temperature of said fluid streams is controlled responsive to the temperature of the inner surface of said pelletizer.
