Abstract

Abstract Apparatus for forming concrete articles in which augers convey ''''no-slump'''' concrete mix to a molding station with sufficient force to consolidate the mix. Friction is reduced at form surfaces of the molding station by high frequency vibration, greater than 22,000 vibrations per minute. Core-forming mandrels are disposed axially lateral of the line of flight of the augers. The concrete can be prestressed utilizing pre-tensioning or posttensioning mechanisms and provision is made for transverse reinforcement of the concrete.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 200 words
Apparatus for forming concrete aricles, comprising: a hopper, a conveyor section, a consolidation section and a molding station; said molding station including form surfaces; at least one auger for conveying concrete mix along said conveyor section, said auger having flights for extruding said mix through said consolidation section and into said molding station; at least one mandrel formed by walls having external surfaces in the path of extrusion from said auger flights; said auger being rotationally independent from said mandrel; said auger and said mandrel being relatively disposed so that the longitudinal axis of said auger is lateral of the longitudinal axis of said mandrel; said hopper including means for introducing concrete mix to said auger; means for rotating said auger to convey said mix to the form surfaces of said molding station with sufficient force to consolidate said mix and extrude the consolidated mix relative to said form surface; means for slideably securing said molding station form surfaces whereby to permit reciprocal movement along their planes; and means for reciprocally vibrating said form surfaces along their planes at a frequency greater than 22,000 vibrations per minute, during the extrusion, to reduce friction between said form surfaces and said mix.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 200 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 55 words
The apparatus according to claim 1 including an end forming plate, means for introducing said plate into the extruded mix transverse to the path of said extrusion, and means for vibrating said plate at high frequency whereby to reduce friction between said plate and said extruded mix for forming end portions of said extruded mix.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
The apparatus according to claim 1 including means for directing fluid under pressure between the external surfaces of said mandrel walls and said mix to reduce friction therebetween.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 26 words
The apparatus according to claim 1, including means for vibrating said mandrel to reduce friction between said external surfaces of said mandrel walls and said mix.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
The apparatus according to claim 4 in which said mandrel vibrating means vibrate said mandrel walls at a frequency greater than 22,000 vibrations per minute.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 28 words
The apparatus according to claim 1 including means for movably mounting said apparatus for propulsion thereof in reaction to said extrusion, and means for leveling said form surfaces.
