Abstract

Abstract In the process for preparing an organic isocyanate by reacting an organic nitro compound with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst, improved recovery of the organic isocyanate is obtained when the reaction is carried out in the presence of a hydroxyl-substituted hydrocarbon. In addition, when a dinitro compound is employed as a reactant, the proportion of ortho isomers in the isocyanate product is markedly reduced.
