Abstract
Abstract Mixtures containing a major proportion of 2,2-bis(4hydroxyphenyl)propane and a minor proportion, e.g. 10-30 percent w, of the isomers of bis(hydroxyphenyl)methane are prepared by allowing a phenolic compound to react with mixtures of acetone and formaldehyde (preferably as trioxane). The recovered mixture of bisphenols serves as the starting material for the production of low viscosity epoxy resins.
