Abstract

Abstract A sulfonated Alpha -olefin reaction product containing less than about 8% by weight of Delta ''-alkenesulfonate, based on the total amount of alkenesulfonates in the reaction product, is prepared by (1) sulfonating Alpha -olefin, (2) allowing the product to step (1) to stand at 20* to 100*C for 1 to 5 hours under anhydrous conditions, (3) neutralizing the product of step (2), and (4) subjecting the product of step (3) to a temperature of 130* to 180*C for from 5 minutes to 2 hours.
