Abstract

Abstract In the production of moulded articles wherein reactants are combined, react, and form the material, e.g., foam, composing the article, filling the mould, a mixing chamber for the reactants is combined with the mould. The reactants are introduced and mix in the mixing chamber and issue therefrom into the mould where they react for the formation of the article. In the reaction the mixing chamber can become integrated with the article. The mould can be a shell which becomes integrated with the material produced by the reaction, forming an outer skin of the article.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 110 words
PROCESS FOR MOULDING ARTICLE IN A SHELL WHEREIN REACTANTS ARE COMBINED, REACT, AND FORM A POLYMERIC MATERIAL COMPOSING THE ARTICLE FILLING THE SHEEL TO EFFECT SAID MOULDING WHICH COMPRISES: A. THE STEP OF PROVIDING IN A WALL OF THE SHELL, A CONTAINER TO SERVE AS A MIXING CHAMBER AND AS AN INERT IN A WALL OF THE SHELL FOR RECEIVING THE REACTANTS, AND MIXING THEM AND DISCHARGING THE MIXED REACTANTS TO WITHIN THE SHELL, B. SAID MIXING CHAMBER HAVE AT LEAST ONE OUTLET OPENING FOR DISCHARGE OF RECTANTS MIXED THEREIN, INTO THE SHELL, C. INTRODUCING THE REACTANTS INTO THE MIXING CHAMBER FOR MIXING THEREOF IN THE MIXING CHAMBER AND DISCHARGE
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 110 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 12 words
PROCESS ACCORDING TO CLAIM 1, WHEREIN THE RECTANTS FORM A POLYMERIC FOAM.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 11 words
Process according to claim 2, wherein the reactants form polyurethane foam.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
Process according to claim 2, wherein some of the reactants remain in the mixing chamber and react and form polymeric foam therein filling the mixing chamber with said foam.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 46 words
Process according to claim 4, and providing the mixing chamber with a closure serving to shape the foam formed from the reactants in the mixing chamber to conform with the shape of the article produced, and maintaining the closure on the mixing chamber during the reaction.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 48 words
Process according to claim 5, and supplying the reactants to the mixing chamber with a gun having a delivery barrel contoured to serve as said closure and securing the gun in place on the mixing chamber during the reaction in the mixing chamber to seal the mixing chamber.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 60 words
Process according to claim 5, said closure being a cover for the mixing chamber initially having no opening therein for delivery of reactants to the mixing chamber, and supplying the reactants to the mixing chAmber with a gun having means for piercing the cover forming an opening therein for passage of the reactants from the gun into the mixing chamber.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 38 words
Process according to claim 5, said closure being deformable under foaming pressure, and being initially shaped so that the forming pressure deforms it from the initial shape to provide said conformation with the shape of the article produced.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 21 words
Process according to claim 2, wherein said shell becomes integrated with the foam forming the outer surface of the article produced.
