Abstract

Abstract Process for the preparation of a disperse methine dye compound having the formula which comprises contacting a preformed anhydrous solution of an intermediate compound, formed by contacting an amine having the formula H-R or H-R1-R1-H with POCl3 and a di-lower alkylformamide, with an active methylene compound having the formula NC-CH2-R2, preferably in the presence of an acid acceptor, wherein R is a monovalent and R1 is a divalent residue of an aniline, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline or benzomorpholine component of a disperse methine dye compound attached to the group -CH C(CN)R2 by an aromatic carbon atom in the position para to the nitrogen atom of the aniline, tetrahydroquinoline and benzomorpholine nucleus; and R2 is cyano, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkanoyl, aroyl, lower akylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl, carbamoyl, N-lower-alkylcarbamoyl or N,N-di-lower-alkylcarbamoyl.
