Abstract

Abstract An aqueous composition containing a color former for pressure sensitive recording paper having good primary and secondary color-developing abilities and an excellent smoothening property, said composition comprising a dispersion of fine particles of a clay mineral of the montmorillonite group, a clay mineral of the kaplinite-group halloysite type, or an acid-treated product thereof in an aqueous medium containing a water-miscible organic solvent in an amount not exceeding 30% by weight, said composition having a water-affinity coefficient (Kw), defined in the specification, of 1.3 to 3, and a method for producing the aqueous composition. This aqueous composition, when coated on a receiving sheet or an intermediate sheet of the recording paper, provides smooth and lustrous surface and has a reduced tendency to cause wear or damage to printing types or cutting blades when printing or cutting the sheet.
