Abstract

Abstract Method and apparatus for doffing filled yarn packages from a metier and donning empty package is disclosed. The apparatus includes an upper frame and a lower frame which are mounted together on a track extending along the length of the metier. Each frame includes an arm operable to swing the package away from the cam and an arm for engaging the yarn, severing the yarn and throwing on the yarn ends after the filled package has been replaced with an empty package. The apparatus includes controls for coordinating the movements of the various components.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 48 words
A package doffing assembly according to claim 1 wherein said primary and said secondary yarn handling means includes a base and a housing on said base, said housing having slot means for receiving yarn whereby yarn received in said slot means may be severed by said severing means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 92 words
A package doffing assembly according to claim 2 wherein said severing means comprises a stationary blade mounted on said housing adjacent said slot, a movable blade mounted on said housing for scissoring movement across said slot toward said stationary blade, and fluid-actuated piston means for selectively moving said movable blade toward said stationary blade, and said guide means including means for shifting said housing laterally relative to said base to align said yarn and said slot during a severing operation and to align said yarn and said package to accomplish a throw-on.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 143 words
A package doffing assembly according to claim 1 wherein said aligning means includes brake means and brake-activating means on said primary frame means, cam means on said track means for engaging said brake-activating means to activate said brake means in response to a transfer of said primary frame means to a subsequent doffing position, stop means on said track means and movable arm means on said primary frame means engageable with said stop means to maintain said primary frame means in said subsequent doffing position; said means on said secondary frame means including means for releasing said arm means from its stopping engagement position upon transfer of said secondary frame to a subsequent doffing position, and brake means actuable in response to contact between elements of said primary and secondary frame means to maintain said secondary frame means in its subsequent doffing position.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 62 words
A package doffing assembly according to claim 1 and including actuating means on each of said primary and secondary frame means for sequentially displacing the package carrier means away from said surface engaging position; said timer means being operatively connected to said actuating means to control the operation of said actuating means in sequential relation with the operation of said handling means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 52 words
A package doffing assembly according to claim 1 wherein said primary handling means and said secondary handling means each include air aspirator means for capturing the waste yarn from the feed roll after severing, and a waste container mounted on said frame means for receiving waste yarn from the air aspirator means.
