Abstract

Abstract An admixture of silicone polymer is mixed with granulated polytetrafluoroethylene (TFE) (or related fluoroplastic material) particles in the general order of 0.001 inch - 0.015 inch in diameter grains. The admixture of silicone polymer and TFE is in the range of 25% to 75% by weight of TFE. When used to make any suitable device such as a hose, the mixture may be extruded contiguously over the hose surface. The admixture may also be formed into a tape configuration which may be wrapped over a base substrate. The material has substantial volume and flame resistance to provide ablation protection under conditions of high temperature. A similar material may optionally be applied over the outside of the hose as a scuff jacket, in which case the particles might be in the order of 0.005 inch - 0.010 inch in diameter.
