Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 44 words
COATED UNEXPANDED EXPANDABLE PARTICLES OF A POLYMER OF A VINYL AROMATIC COMPOUND IN WHICH THE COATING IS A STRAIGHT CHAIN ALIPHATIC SUBSTITUTED 1-HYDROXYETHYLIMIDAZOLINE IN AN AMOUNT SUFFICIENT TO RENDER THE PARTICLES FREE FLOWING AND HAVING REDUCED TENDENCY TO AGGLOMERATE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER PREEXPANSION.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 44 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 14 words
Coated expandable particles as in claim 1 in which the coating comprises a 1hydroxyethyl-2-alkylimidazoline.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 28 words
Coated expandable particles as in claim 2 in which the alkyl group contains an odd number of carbon atoms in the range from about C11 to about C21.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
Coated expandable particles as in claim 1 wherein the coating contains a surfactant and the ratio of said imidazoline to surfactant is in the range from 1:2 to 4:1.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 12 words
Coated expandable particles as in claim 4 wherein the surfactant is nonionic.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
Coated expandable particles as in claim 1 wherein the coating is present in an amount in the range from about 0.01 to about 1.0% by weight of the expandable particles.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 51 words
A process for the manufacture of free flowing coated unexpanded expandable particles of a vinyl aromatic polymer which comprises contacting unexpanded expandable particles of a polymer of a vinyl aromatic compound with a solution of a straight chain aliphatic substituted 1-hydroxyethyl imidazoline in a non-aqueous vaporizable solvent, and evaporating the solvent.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 51 words
A process for the manufacture of free flowing coated unexpanded expandable particles of a vinyl aromatic polymer which comprises contacting unexpanded expandable particles of a polymer of a vinyl aromatic compound with a solution of a straight chain aliphatic substituted 1-hydroxyethyl imidazoline in a non-aqueous vaporizable solvent, and evaporating the solvent.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 31 words
A process as in claim 7 wherein in step (a) the solution contains a surfactant and the ratio of said imidazoline to surfactant is in the range from 1:1 to 4:1.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 15 words
A process as in claim 7 wherein the solvent is at least one lower alcohol.
