Abstract

Abstract A particulate substrate is coated with a p-xylylene polymer by subliming a cyclic p-xylylene, pyrolyzing the resulting vapor to form a vaporous diradical, and contacting the vaporous diradical with an agitated bed of the substrate particles. The diradical vapor and particulate substrate are brought into intimate association and contact sufficient that the polymerization occurs even at temperatures above the ceiling condensation temperature of the particular diradical.
