Abstract

Abstract A vacuum package utilizes a novel composite closure cap which includes a plastic fitment or overcap retaining a gasketed rigid closure lid and adapted for high speed machine press-on application and convenient pull-off removal with respect to a container, the top opening of which provides an annular top seal finish. The plastic fitment has lid-engaging lugs which, upon lifting of a pull tab which is an integral part of the plastic fitment, lifts the closure lid, thereby breaking the vacuum. The hinge line of the pull tab is located at the end of a radius on the end panel of the plastic fitment, which radius is shorter than the radius to the lid-engaging lug. The lid-engaging lug in the region of the tab is thus biased radially inwardly against the circumference of the lid, thereby enhancing the operation of the plastic fitment to break the vacuum within the container when the pull tab is pulled axially.
