Abstract

Abstract A cylindrical grinding machine comprising means for supporting a workpiece for rotative displacement about the axis thereof, a grinding wheel assembly including at least one grinding wheel and means for rotatively displacing the grinding wheel about the axis thereof, a workrest including an upper workrest jaw and a lower workrest jaw, first means including a first stepping motor for incrementally advancing the grinding wheel, second means including a second stepping motor for incrementally advancing the upper workrest jaw, third means including a third stepping motor for incrementally advancing the lower workrest jaw and means for conjointly supplying pulses to the first, second and third stepping motors at predetermined rates when the upper workrest jaw, lower workrest jaw and grinding wheel are located at first predetermined positions a selected distance from the nondeflected axis of the rotating workpiece to advance the grinding wheel and upper and lower workrest jaws to advanced positions.

A CYLINDERICAL GRINDING MACHINE COMPRISING MEANS FOR SUPPORTING A WORKPIECE FOR ROTATIVE DISPLACEMENT ABOUT THE AXIS THEREOF, A GRINDING WHEEL ASSEMBLY INCLUDING AT LEAST ONE GRINDING WHEEL AND MEANS FOR ROTATIVELY DISPLACING SAID GRINDING WHEEL ABOUT THE AXIS THEREOF, A WORKREST INCLUDING AN UPPER WORKREST JAW, AND A LOWER WORKREST JAW, FIRST MEANS INLUDING A FIRST STEPPING MOTOR FOR INCREMENTIALLY ADVANCING SAID GRINDING WHEEL SECOND MEANS INCLUDING A SECOND STEPPING MOTOR FOR INCREMENTALLY ADVANCING SAID UPPER WORKREST JAW, THIRD MEANS INCLUDING A THIRD STEPPING MOTOR FOR INCREMENTIALLY ADVANCING SAID LOWER WORKREST JAW, AND
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 54 words
A cylindrical grinder according to claim 1, further comprising means for supplying pulses to said first stepping motor to selectively incrementally advance said grinding wheel from a retracted position remote from the rotating workpiece to said first grinding wheel position, said grinding wheel effecting stock removal as it is advanced to said first position.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 52 words
A cylindrical grinder according to claim 2, further comprising means for supplying pulses to said second and third stepping motors to advance said upper and lower workrest jaws from retracted positions and means for disabling said supplying means when said upper and lower workrest jaws have been advanced to said first positions.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 22 words
A cylindrical grinder according to claim 3, wherein said disabling means includes pressure transducers mounted on said upper and lower workrest jaws.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 43 words
A cylindrical grinder according to claim 1, further comprising means for supplying pulses to said first, second, and third stepping motors to retract said grinding wheel and upper and lower workrest jaws from said advanced positions, past said first positions to retracted positions.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 219 words
A cylindrical grinding machine comprising means for supporting a workpiece for rotative displacement about the axis thereof, a grinding wheel assembly including at least one grinding wheel and means for rotatively displacing said grinding wheel about the axis thereof, a workrest including an upper workrest jaw including a workpiece engaging shoe, and a lower workrest jaw including a workpiece engaging shoe, first means including a first stepping motor for incrementally advancing said grinding wheel, second means including a second stepping motor for incrementally advancing said upper workrest jaw, third means including a third stepping motor for incrementally advancing said lower workrest jaw, means for supplying pulses to said second and third stepping motors to advance said upper and lower workrest jaws from retracted positions and means for disabling said supplying means when said upper and lower workrest jaws have been advanced to first positions whereat the workpiece engaging surface of said upper and lower shoes and said grinding wheel are a selected distance from the non-deflected axis of the rotating workpiece, and means for conjointly supplying pulses to said first, second and third stepping motors at predetermined rates to incrementally advance the workpiece engaging surfaces of said grinding wheel, and upper and lower workrest shoes to advanced positions a predetermined distance from the non-deflected axis of the rotating workpiece.
