Claim 2

A LIQUID WATER-DISPLACEMENT COMPOSITION COMPRISING A. A FLUORINE-CONTAINING COMPOUND HAVING I) SOLUBILITY PARAMETER LESS THAN ABOUT 8, II) DENSITY OF AT LEAST ABOUT 1.3 G/CC AT ROOM TEMPERATURE, AND III) A BOILING POINT ABOVE ABOUT 20*C., AND B. AT LEAST ONE SURFACTANT SELECTED FROM ONE OF THE GROUPS CONSISTING OF CATIONIC, ANIONIC AND NONIONIC/AMPHOTERIC SURFACTANTS, SAID SURFACTANT DISSOLVED IN (A) TO THE EXTENT OF ABOUT 0.01 TO 5 PERCENT BY WEIGHT OF THE COMBINATION, SAID COMPOSITION CHARACTERIZED BY AN INTERFSACIAL TENSION WITH WATER OF UP TO ABOUT 6 DYNES/CM, A WATERDISPLACEMENT INDEX OF ABOVE ABOUT 80 PERCENT AND A WATERSOLUBILIZATION INDEX OF LESS THAN ABOUT 750 PPM.

Claim 3

A composition according to claim 1, wherein the fluorine-containing compound is selected from at least one member of the group consisting of poly(hexafluoropropylene oxide), 1H-tetrafluoroethyl terminated hexafluoro-1,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)cyclobutane and -1,3-isomer 2,2-dichlorohexafluoropropane Heptafluoropropyl 1H-tetrafluoroethyl ether 1,2,2-trichloropentafluoropropane Octafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)morpholine 2,3-dichlorooctafluorobutane 3,4-dichlorohexafluorotetrahydrofuran 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane 1,2-dichlorohexafluorocyclobutane and -1,3-isomer trichlorofluoromethane, and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-1,2-difluoroethane.

Claim 4

A composition according to claim 2 wherein the fluorine-containing compound is 1,1,2-trichloro1,2,2-trifluoroethane.

Claim 5

A composition according to claim 1, wherein the surfactant is a cationic surfactant.

Claim 6

A composition according to claim 4 containing additionally from about 0.2 to 5 weight percent of a C1 to C6 mono-alcohol.

Claim 7

A composition according to claim 5 additionally containing a denaturant.

Claim 8

A composition according to claim 6 containing about 3.75 weight percent of a mixture of about 91% ethanol and 9% methanol.

Claim 9

A composition according to claim 4 wherein the cationic surfactant Is selected from the imidazoline moiety

Claim 10

A composition according to claim 8 wherein the cationic surfactant is the imidazoline moiety.

Claim 11

A composition according to claim 8 wherein the cationic surfactant is selected from the imidazoline moiety combined with one, and the imidazoline moiety combined with two carboxylate moieties.

A composition according to claim 8 wherein the surfactant is selected from the group 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H33)-2-imidazoline mono oleate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono acetate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono n-octanoate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline di n-octanoate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono n-butyrate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline di n-butyrate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono n-heptanoate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline di n-heptanoate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono n-decanoate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono n-laurate 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline mono pelargonate 1-(C17H31-35-CONHCH2CH2-)-2-(C17H31-35)-2-imidazoline, and C17H33CONHCH2CH2NHCH2CH2OH.

A composition according to claim 11 wherein the surfactant is 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-(C17H33)-2-imidazoline oleate.

A composition according to claim 11 wherein the surfactant is C17H33CONHCH2CH2NHCH2CH2OH.

Claim 15

A composition according to claim 12 wherein the fluorine-containing compound is 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane.

Claim 16

A composition according to claim 14 containing from about 0.2 to 5 percent by weight of ethanol.

Claim 17

A composition according to claim 13 wherein the fluorine-containing compound is 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane.

Claim 18

A composition according to claim 16 containing from about 0.2 to 5 percent by weight ethanol.

Claim 19

A composition according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant is anionic.

Claim 20

A composition according to claim 18 containing additionally from about 0.2 to 5 weight percent of a C1 to C6 mono-alcohol.

Claim 21

A composition according to claim 19 additionally containing a denaturant.

Claim 22

A composition according to claim 20 containing about 3.75 weight percent of a mixture of about 91% ethanol and 9% methanol.

A composition according to claim 18 wherein the surfactant is selected from the group (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(n-C8H17NH3) 1.5 (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(C6H5NH2(CH3)) 1.5 (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(CH3CH2CH2)3)NH 1.5 (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(C6H5NH(CH3)2) 1.5 (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(C12H25N(C2H5)2) 1.5 (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(n-C8H17NH3) 1.5, and (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O2)1.5P O2.5(n-C8H17NH3) 1.5.

A composition according to claim 22 wherein the surfactant is (i-C8H17O(CH2CH2O)2)1.5P O2.5(n-C8H17NH3) 1.5.

A composition according to claim 23 wherein the fluorine-containing compound is 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane.

Claim 26

A composition according to claim 24 containing additionally from about 0.2 to 5 weight percent ethanol.

A composition according to claim 1 wherein the surfactant is selected from the group nonionic and amphoteric.

Claim 28

A composition according to claim 26 wherein the surfactant is nonionic.

Claim 29

A composition according to claim 27 wherein the fluorine-containing compound is 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane.

Claim 30

A composition according to claim 28 containing additionally from about 0.2 to 5 weight percent of a C1 to C6 mono-alcohol.

A composition according to claim 29 additionally containing a denaturant.

Claim 32

A composition according to claim 30 containing about 3.75 weight percent of a mixture of about 91% ethanol and 9% methanol.

A composition according to claim 26 wherein the surfactant is amphoteric.

A composition according to claim 32 wherein the fluorine-containing compound is 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane.

A composition according to claim 33 containing additionally from about 0.2 to 5 weight percent of a C1 to C6 mono-alcohol.

A composition according to claim 34 additionally containing a denaturant.

A composition according to claim 35 containing about 3.75 weight percent of a mixture of about 91% ethanol and 9% methanol.
