Abstract

Abstract This disclosure depicts in a shadow mask-type color cathode ray tube a number of embodiments of a novel shadow mask and associated phosphor screen. In preferred embodiments depicted, the shadow mask has a plurality of rows of elongated apertures and the associated screen has a plurality of rows of corresponding elongated phosphor elements which are arranged such that the major axes of the apertures and elements in each row of apertures and elements are parallel and canted relative to the direction of electron beam scan. In certain embodiments, the apertures in any given row of apertures and the phosphor elements in any given row of elements have an angle of canting which is of opposite polarity to the angle of canting of their counterparts in adjoining rows. In other embodiments the angle of canting of the apertures and associated phosphor elements is the same for all rows. A number of embodiments are disclosed which have configurations of mask apertures and associated phosphor elements which renders them, in principle, free of moire pattern generation.
