Abstract

Abstract A laminated composite polymeric structure having beneficial utility as an electric heating element which is thin, flexible, and durable as well as efficient and safe to use can be made by forming an assembly of layers in which a film of electrically insulating polymeric material is in contact with at least one side of a layer of electrically conductive elastomeric material made by mixing a fluoroelastomer with a conductive carbon black, and having a suitable conductor means such as a strip of copper or aluminum in contact therewith for connection to a power supply, and then heating and pressing the assembly until the conductive elastomeric layer has suitable conductivity and adhesion to the insulating film.
