Abstract
Abstract Shaped catalyst pellets formed with indentations or protrusions provide a better combination of properties, such as, activity per unit volume, pressure drop, bulk density, surface area per unit volume of reactor, than is possible with shaped in present use. The pellets are economic to manufacture at the required mechanical strength. The advantages are obtained especially when the chemical reaction takes place primarily at the external surface of the pellet, for example in hydrocarbon hydrodesulphurisation or in the carbon monoxide shift reaction.
