Abstract

Abstract A method for relining metallurgical ladles, soaking pits, and furnaces at temperatures of at least about 250*F by applying a mixture of refractory materials against a prior-existing lining without prior cooling thereof, the relining thickness being at least one-fourth inch. The dry refractory mixture consists essentially of, by weight, from about 1/2 % to about 4% of sodium silicate, from about 1/2 % to about 4% of an organic binder, from about 20% to 80% of clay, and from about 12% to about 72% quartzite. To facilitate its application, the dry refractory mixture may be mixed with about 4% to 6% water as it is applied.
