Abstract

Abstract A dielectric body which is permeable to electromagnetic wave energy of a material selected from the group consisting of alumina and beryllia ceramics is provided with a coating of a semiconducting oxide to substantially suppress electron multipactoring. The exemplary materials include semiconducting oxides of silicon and transition metals including copper, cobalt, chromium, iron, manganese and nickel. Thicknesses averaging 1,000 Angstrom units have resulted in substantial increases in the power handling ability of electromagnetic devices employing such dielectric bodies.
