Abstract

Abstract Aromatic compounds - either carbocyclic or heterocyclic - can be arylated by heating them with a nitro-substituted aromatic compound. Suitable reaction conditions include temperatures of about 400*-1000*C., pressures of about 0.01 to 1000 atmospheres, and a reaction time of 0.1 seconds to 10 hours. Also aromatic carbocyclic and aromatic heterocyclic compounds can be dimerized in the presence of nitro substituted aromatic compounds at similar reaction conditions.
