Abstract
Abstract Better wet-out of glass fiber, lower viscosity of the resin mix which allows for higher filler loadings and better stability are the improvements of this invention. The improved process comprises mixing a thermosettable resin and a copolymerizable monomer with a polymeric low profile additive, fiber reinforcing material, CaCO3 filler and a viscosity reducing agent comprising a block copolymer having a polyoxyethylene block segment and a block segment of polymerized alkenyl aromatic or conjugated diene monomer. Sheet and bulk molding compounds are made according to the improved process by the further addition of a chemical thickening agent such as magnesium oxide.
