Abstract

Abstract A downhole ball type safety valve for installation in a well at a subsurface location to control, in a failsafe manner, the fluid flow from the well. The valve is equipped with spring means to close it automatically should the hydraulic pressure employed to hold it open drop below a predetermined level, and a means to open and releasably lock open the valve in the event it cannot be opened by the main hydraulic system.
