Abstract

Abstract A planter apparatus for attachment to a tractor or other draft vehicle and having a pair of vertically disposed interconnected pivoting frames. Front and rear ground engaging wheels are mounted along the longitudinal axis of the lower frame, and a pair of transversely disposed discs are mounted therebetween along the axis and for forming an incision in the ground. A chain and belt drive from the front wheel actuates a rotating seed discharge mechanism in a housing mounted over the rear portion of the discs whereby seed is discharged into the incision. The rear wheel compacts the soil over the incision with the seed therein.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 119 words
A planter apparatus comprising; a tool bar adapted to be attached to the A-frame of a conventional tractor; a U-frame pivotally connected at one end to said tool bar; an H-frame rockably secured substantially centrally intermediate its ends to said U-frame, whereby said H-frame is rockable relative to said U-frame; a pair of ground engaging wheels rotatably mounted to the front and rear of said H-frame drive means on said H-frame; a pair of discs rotatably mounted on said H-frames intermediate said wheels and mounted thereon for making an incision in the ground; and means mounted on said H-frame and operatively connected to said drive means operative during movement of said tool bar for discharging seed into said incision.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 119 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 119 words
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 119 words
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 37 words
A planter apparatus as described in claim 1 wherein said tool bar includes means mounted thereon and interconnected to each of said frames for limiting the movement of each of said frames relative to said tool bar.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 40 words
A planter apparatus as described in claim 1 wherein said wheels both have a flat outer surface for pressing against the ground, and are axially aligned in the direction of movement of said planter apparatus as towed by a tractor.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 31 words
A planter apparatus as described in claim 1 wherein said rear wheel includes means for adjusting its vertical position relative to said H-frame, whereby the depth of said incision is variable.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 43 words
A planter apparatus as described in claim 4 wherein said adjusting means includes a shaft and a sleeve said shaft attached to one end to said rear wheel, said sleeve affixed to said H-frame, said shaft slidably received and held by said sleeve.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 41 words
A planter apparatus as described in claim 1 wherein said discs include mounting means for simultaneously cambering said discs and slanting the leading edges of said discs toward each other whereby the lower leading edges of said discs are brought together.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 55 words
A planter apparatus as described in claim 6 wherein said mounting means includes for each said disc first and second mounting plates and a pin means, said first plate attached to said disc and slidably received by said second plate, said second attached to said H-frame, said pin means transfixing said first and second plates.
