Abstract

Abstract A conventional tractor mounted corn harvester for harvesting closely spaced rows is disclosed comprising four essentially conventional rearwardly facing single row harvester units mounted on a supporting frame-work carried by the three-point hitch of a conventional tractor and facing rearwardly for use in a harvesting operation in which the tractor moves in a reverse direction; right and left collecting conveyors extend along opposite sides of the engine housing from beneath the rear axle forwardly of the engine for receiving corn from the harvester unit, and carrying same to a trailer towed by the tractor. Another aspect of the invention resides in the use of two variable speed hydraulic motors each employed for driving two of the four auger conveyors of the row harvester units with each motor driving a pair of the auger conveyors being hydraulically in series with drive motors of right and left infeed conveyors for delivering harvested corn from the outboard harvester units onto the collecting conveyors. Hydraulic controls enable adjustment of the speed of the various components with respect to each other for achieving optimum efficiency in accordance with crop conditions.
