Abstract

Abstract A valve construction having a valve bonnet provided with opposed ends and an external peripheral surface intermediate those ends, the internal peripheral surface having locking recesses formed therein. A cover member is telescoped over the valve bonnet and carries a spring retainer having a pair of opposed elbow portions thereof received in the locking recesses of the valve bonnet to detachably lock the cover member to the valve bonnet. A packing gland is carried by the valve bonnet and has a movable valve stem passing therethrough to be sealed by the packing gland while being adapted to move axially relative thereto. The packing gland carries two resilient O-rings separated by an annular lubricant impregnated packing material whereby the valve stem passes axially through the O-rings and the annular packing material to be sealed thereby while being axially movable relative thereto.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 115 words
In combination, a valve bonnet having opposed ends and an external peripheral surface intermediate said ends, said external peripheral surface having spaced arcuate locking recess means therein extending over the major arcuate portion of said peripheral surface, a cover member rotatably telescoped over said valve bonnet, and a spring retainer means carried by said cover member and having a portion thereof received in said recess means of said valve bonnet to detachably lock said cover member to said valve bonnet, said recess means and said portion of said cover member cooperating together in said locked condition thereof to permit rotational movement of said cover member through a relatively long arc relative to said valve bonnet.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 115 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
A combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said portion of said spring retainer means comprises an elbow of said spring retainer, said cover member having a slot therein receiving said elbow to permit said elbow to project into said recess means of said valve bonnet.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 51 words
A combination as set forth in claim 2 wherein said portion of said spring retainer also comprises another elbow of said spring retainer spaced from said first-mentioned elbow, said cover member having another slot therein receiving said other elbow to permit said other elbow to be received into said recess means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 64 words
A combination as set forth in claim 3 wherein said recess means of said valve bonnet includes two slots extending longitudinally from one end of said valve bonnet along said external peripheral surface to an intermediate part thereof, said projecting elbows of said spring retainer being adapted to ride down said slots of said valve bonnet as said cover member is being telescoped thereon.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 113 words
A combination as set forth in claim 4 wherein said recess means of said valve bonnet also comprises a pair of transverse slots in said external peripheral surface and respectively extending between said longitudinal slots thereof at said intermediate part of said valve bonnet, said valve bonnet having cam means between each longitudinal slot and its respective transverse slots to cause said elbows of said cover member to cam around the same as said cover member is rotated on said valve bonnet after said elbows have been moved down said longitudinal slots to said intermediate part of said valve bonnet whereby said elbows are locked in said transverse slots by said cam means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 41 words
A combination as set forth in claim 5 wherein said transverse recesses are relatively long whereby said cover member can be rotated through said relatively large arc and said elbows will move between said cam means to permit such rotational movement.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
A combination as set forth in claim 5 wherein said elbows are disposed approximately 180* apart from each other.
