Abstract

Abstract A reducible, image-forming compound is present in a radiationsensitive layer in combination with a 2H-benzimidazole. Upon exposure the 2H-benzimidazole is converted to a dihydrobenzimidazole reducing agent in radiation-struck areas of the layer. Subsequent heating of the layer fixes the 2Hbenzimidazole remaining in non-irradiated areas by converting it to a 1H-benzimidazole. Heating can also have the effect of accelerating reduction of the image-forming compound.
