Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 96 words
A PROCESS FOR PREPARING A CERAMIC FOAM WHICH COMPRISES FIRING A CURED THERMOSET RESIN-CERAMIC MIXTURE AT A TEMPERATURE OF FROM ABOUT 1,000*C. TO ABOUT 1,500*C. IN A CONTAINER WHICH IS OPEN AT THE TOP AND ENCLOSED ON ALL SIDES AND THE BOTTOM, ALLOWING THE GASES GENERATED FROM THE THERMAL DEGRADATION AND COMBUSTION OF SAID MIXTURE TO RISE THROUGH THE MIXTURE AND ESCAPE THROUGH THE OPEN-ENDED TOP OF THE CONTAINER, THEREBY CREATING AN OPEN-CELLED STRUCTURE, SINTERING THE THUS FIRED RESIN-CERAMIC MIXTURE IS A TEMPERATURE OF FROM ABOUT 1,350*C. TO ABOUT 1,450*C., AND RECOVERING THE RESULTANT CERAMIC FOAM.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 96 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
The process of claim 1 further characterized in that the resultant ceramic foam is a cordierite.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
The process of claim 1 further characterized in that the thermoset resin-ceramic mixture comprises a polyester resin and a mixture of alumina, silica and talc.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
The process of claim 1 further characterized in that the thermoset resin-ceramic mixture comprises a polyester resin and a mixture of alumina, silica and magnesia.
