Abstract
Abstract A method of securing a nut to a panel, including deforming the panel into a groove or recess in the nut by advancing a punch against the panel face opposed to the nut, deforming the panel edge beneath and against an inclined outer wall of the nut groove and further advancing the punch into a tool receiving recess in the bottom of the groove, beyond the panel edge. In one disclosed embodiment, the nut pierces its own hole in the panel. In the other embodiment, the panel is pre-pierced and the nut is clinched to the panel.
