Claim 1
Independent Claim
144 words
A guard for a rotary tool apparatus having a platform, a vertical spindle projecting above said platform and rotatably driven about its vertical axis, and a rotary tool fixed to the portion of the spindle adjacent and above said platform for operating upon work upon said platform in engagement with said tool, comprising: a. a disc-shaped guard member having a diameter greater than the maximum diameter of the swath of said rotary tool, b. means supporting said guard member coaxially upon said spindle above said rotary tool, and c. said guard member comprising an annular body portion of solid, circumferentially uninterrupted, transparent material, to permit continuous vision through said annular body portion, even while said guard member is rotating, said guard member further being provided with a rim of soft resilient material fixed to and surrounding the periphery of said transparent annular body portion.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
18 words
The invention according to claim 1 in which the transparent material of said annular body portion is rigid.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
37 words
The invention according to claim 2 in which said means supporting said guard member comprises bearing means in the center of and fixed to said annular body portion for supporting said guard member coaxially upon said spindle.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
53 words
The invention according to claim 3 in which said transparent annular body portion constitutes the major portion of said guard member and lies substantially in a horizontal plane with said bearing means and said annular rim, said rigid transparent material being structurally self-supporting and integrally connecting said bearing means and said annular rim.
