Abstract

Abstract A continuous material production process is regulated by a controller whose set point is automatically optimized according to statistical computations based on inputs of measured fraction defective and fraction defective set-point values. These values are each converted to a linear deviation quantity based on an estimate of standard deviation computed from defect level, process average and measured fraction defective. The deviation quantities and the difference therebetween are computed repeatedly, and the difference values are accumulated to provide integral control of the set point for the process controller.
