Abstract
Abstract The present invention is a process for the introduction of a nucleophilic moiety into a benzimidazole or imidazo(4,5-b or c)pyridiine ring, which comprises treating a derivative of the corresponding 1-hydroxybenzimidazole or -imidazo(4,5-b or c)pyridine with a nucleophilic reagent. The process can also be used to reduce the 1-hydroxybenzimidazole or -imidazo(4,5-b or c)pyridine.
