Abstract

Abstract Metal articles are coated by a process which comprises treating the metal articles with a non-aqueous phosphatizing solution containing a novolac phenol-formaldehyde resin having a molecular weight of from about 300 to 5,000, and chemically reacting the resin by heating the treated article at a temperature of at least about 190*C in the presence of an oxygen-containing atmosphere. The articles so treated are rendered exceptionally corrosion resistant and exhibit excellent retention of final finish coatings.
