Abstract

Abstract There is provided a novel process for selectively reducing citral to citronnellal by hydrogenation using wet palladium as catalyst in the presence of a base. It is a particular advantage of the process that citral from synthetic or natural sources may be employed to yield citronellal substantially free of byproducts.
