Abstract
Abstract Electric wire and cables are accommodated in metal panel furniture by cutting a hole through a metal panel and inserting a cable bushing to protect cables from the cut edge of the hole. The bushing comprises a frame surrounding a central removable portion in the plane of the panel and a protrusion orthogonal to said plane extending through the hole. Yieldable tabs in the protrusion, cooperate with the frame to define multiple spaced pairs of panel grip jaws. Spaced thin strips mount the central portion within the frame and are selectively severable to convert the central portion into a hinged door or to remove the portion.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
144 words
Cable bushing apparatus comprising, means defining a frame, means defining a central removable portion at least partially enclosed by said frame and spaced therefrom, means defining a plurality of thin strips spanning the distance from the frame to said central removable portion for removably and hingeably supporting said central portion, said thin strips being breakable with the tip of a knife and sufficiently flexible to function as a hinge when said central portion is otherwise free to move and may then function as a hinged door, means defining an elongated protrusion of the frame coextensive therewith, and means defining a plurality of yieldable tabs along an outer surface of said protrusion arranged adjacent to said frame to define multiple pairs of panel gripping jaws, said frame and central removable portion defining a common plane and said protrusion being arranged orthogonally to said common plane.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
41 words
Cable bushing apparatus in accordance with claim 1 wherein; said central portion is wholly surrounded by said frame, and said frame to central portion spacing is an elongated path with at least half the length thereof filled with said spanning strips.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
18 words
Cable bushing apparatus in accordance with claim 2 wherein; said spanning strips are uniformly spaced from each other.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
46 words
Cable bushing apparatus in accordance with claim 1 and further comprising; means defining an array of cutouts in said protrusion, and means defining an array of bumps along the outer surface of said protrusion aligned with said cutouts, said tabs being contained within said protrusion cutouts.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
54 words
Cable bushing apparatus in accordance with claim 1 and further comprising; means defining a ridge on a first side of said plane, said protrusion being on the second side of said plane, and means defining areas of different surface finish on said first surface with said ridge forming a boundary line between said areas.
