Abstract
Abstract A position indicating system indicates the position of a ferromagnetic shaft which drives a moderator in a nuclear reactor and which is enclosed in a chamber. The system includes a plurality of magnetic transducers arranged at longitudinally spaced-apart locations adjacent to the outside of the chamber. The transducers have input coils individually excited by different phases of a multi-phase electrical source and have interconnected output coils providing an oscillating electrical signal that has a variable phase relative to a reference phase and that varies in phase as a function of the position of the shaft end.
