Abstract
Abstract A method is provided for pelletizing molten materials which consists in feeding the material to be pelletized through a vertical refractory vessel through a controlled atmosphere and discharging the same horizontally from a rotating circular edge as molten pellets into a fluid coolant wherein the molten pellets are cooled and solidified into solid pellets.

A METHOD OF MAKING PELLETS COMPRISING THE STEPS OF: A. CONTINUOUSLY ROTATING A MEMBER HAVING A GENERALLY HOLLOW FRUSTO CONICAL END AND CARRYING MATERIAL TO THE PELLETIZED ABOUT A VERTICAL AXIS; B. HEATING SAID MATERIAL TO BE PELLETIZED IN A CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE IN SAID FRUSTO CONICAL END TO MAINTAIN A MOLTEN GENERALLY FRUSTO CONICAL LAYER OF MATERIAL WITHIN SAID MEMBER SUFFICIENTLY FLUID TO FLOW ACROSS THE FRUSTO CONICAL END; C. DISCHARGING THE MOLTEN MATERIAL AS SPHERES FROM A ROTATING CIRCULAR EDGE OF SAID MEMBER AT THE LARGE END OF AID FRUSTO CONICAL LAYER; AND D. COOLING THE DISCHARGED MATERIAL TO SOLIDIFY THE SAME.

A method for disintegrating molten materials carrying a solid phase in the form of undissolved particles comprising the steps of: a. continuously rotating a member having a generally hollow frusto conical end and carrying said materials about a vertical axis; b. heating said materials in a controlled atmosphere to maintain a molten generally frusto conical layer of molten fluid material within said member sufficient to flow on said frusto conical end; c. discharging the molten material and contained solid phase from a rotating circular edge of said member at the large end of said frusto conical layer as individual molten particles with contained solid phase; and d. cooling the discharged particles to solidify the same.
