Abstract
Abstract Coal washery waste waters are clarified in a two-step process in which coal particles are first agglomerated and removed from the water. Thereafter, the inorganic mineral constituents contained in the waste water are separated to leave a clarified water stream suitable for reuse. Agglomeration of the coal particles is accomplished by intense mixing of a heavy hydrocarbon, preferably in the form of a water emulsion, with the washery waste water.
