Abstract
Abstract Novel compositions of matter consisting of quaternary halides of trialkyl or hydroxyalkyl amino alkyl gluconamides have been found to be excellent emollients having high substantivity for skin. They are prepared, for example, by the condensation of delta gluconolactone with gamma dimethylaminopropyl amine and the resulting gluconamide quaternized by reaction with an alkyl halide or hydroxyalkyl halide.
