Abstract

Abstract Improvements in the aromatization of hydrocarbons and in the alkylation of aromatic rings effected by contacting appropriate hydrocarbon feed streams with a ZSM-5 type of catalyst at prescribed temperature, pressure and space velocity conditions to convert the feed as required and desired, which improvements go to minimizing the production of polycyclic aromatics, particularly naphthalenes in the process and reducing coking of the catalyst during aromatization and/or alkylation by using as the catalyst a ZSM-5 type of crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite which has rhenium values deposited thereon and therein by ion exchange techniques.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 128 words
IN THE PROCESSING OF A FEED OF C2 TO 400*F HYDROCARBON COMPOUNDS BY CONTAINING SUCH WITH A ZSM-5 TYPE OF SYNTHETIC ALUMINOSILICATE ZEOLITE CATALYST, HAVING A SILICA TO ALUMINA RATIO OF AT LEAST ABOUT 15, HAVING BEEN MADE UTILIZING AN ORGANIC CATION, HAVING ZINC INCORPORATED THEREINTO, AND HAVING THE ABILITY OF SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE AROMATICS CONTENT OF SAID HYDROCARBON FEED AT ABOUT 500* TO 1500*F AND A WHSV OF ABOUT 0.1 TO 15 UNDER CONDITIONS SUFFICIENT TO SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE WEIGHT PROPORTION OF AROMATICS IN THE PRODUCT AS COMPARED TO THE FEED; THE IMPROVEMENT, WHEREBY REDUCGING THE PRODUCTION OF NAPTHTHALENES AND REDUCING COKE FORMATION ON THE CATALYST DURING SUCH PROCESSING, WHICH COMPRISES USING AS SAID CATALYST SAID ZEOLITE INCORPORATING SAID ZINC MODIFIED BY THE EXCHANGE OF RHENIUM THEREINTO.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 128 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 33 words
The improved process claimed in claim 1 carried out at at least atmospheric pressure and using as said catalyst a zeolite which is shape selective for monomethyl substituted paraffins and smaller diameter molecules.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 25 words
The improved process claimed in claim 2 wherein said zeolite is a member selected from the group consisting of ZSM-5, ZSM-11, and ZSM-12 aromatizing zeolites.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 61 words
The improved process claimed in claim 3 carried out at 500* to 800*F, 0.1 to 5 WHSV and with aromatic components in the feed under such combination of conditions as to increase the proportion of aromatics in the product as compared to the feed by fragmenting aliphatic components in said feed and alkylating existing aromatic ring therein with said aliphatic fragments.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
The improved process claimed in claim 3 wherein said feed contains paraffins, olefins, naphthenes and aromatics.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 32 words
The improved process claimed in claim 3 wherein said feed is at least one member selected from the group consisting of coker gasoline, Udex raffinate, reformate, reformer effluent, pyrolysis gasoline and naphtha.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
The improved process claimed in claim 3 wherein the proportion of said zinc is 0.1 to 5 weight percent.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 19 words
The improved process claimed in claim 3 wherein the ratio of rhenium to zinc is about 0.05 to 5.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 55 words
The improved process claimed in claim 3 carried under conditions of 800* to 1500*F, 1 to 15 WHSV and in the absence of added hydrogen sufficient to convert at least about 90 percent of said feed to a product containing at least about 30 grams of new aromatic components per 100 grams of aliphatic feed.
