Abstract

Abstract The disclosure embraces a reciprocating system embodying a hydrodynamic piston ring and more especially to a hydrodynamic lubricant control ring for use in reciprocating piston instrumentalities such as pistons of internal combustion engines, the piston ring embodying a novel peripheral configuration providing hydrodynamic sealing characteristics promoting the maintenance of a minimum oil film and cavitation action during piston reciprocation effecting economies in lubricant consumption without impairing lubrication at the interfacial region of the ring with a cylinder wall.
