Abstract
Abstract Resins useful in adhesive formulations are prepared by polymerization of an alkoxystyrene with an olefinically unsaturated nitrile in a solution or dispersion of a rubber. The polymeric compositions can be applied to surfaces as a hot melt adhesive or solvent cement.

A process according to claim 1 wherein the polymerization is carried out at a temperature in the range 0-100*C under sufficient pressure to maintain liquid phase conditions, the amount of initiator present is in the range 0.01 to about 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the total of monomers (a) and (b), and (c) is a rubber dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent selected from saturated aliphatic, saturated cycloaliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
