Abstract
Abstract This invention relates to a process for preparing vulcanizates from blends of incompatible elastomers using a mutual curing system in which the mixing of each elastomeric component of the blend separately, with a carbon black selected to optimize the desired vulcanizate properties of the final blend, is completed prior to blending the resulting black-containing elastomeric mixes into the final mixture. Using this procedure it is possible to prepare vulcanizates that have higher tensile strength than those prepared by mixing simultaneously carbon black and all components of the mixture.
