Abstract
Abstract A method is described which comprises the step of contacting a subterranean formation with an aqueous composition containing at least one bacterial gum polysaccharide wherein the gum polysaccharide is chemically modified by the presence of at least one suitable polymer graft. In a preferred embodiment the polymer graft is derived from the free radical polymerization of a monoolefin containing up to five carbon atoms and having at least one substituent selected from the class consisting of cyano, substituted or unsubstituted carbamyl, carboxy or carbalkoxy groups.
