Abstract

Abstract Cyclopropyl cyanide is prepared by reacting 4chlorobutyronitrile with a base in the presence of a polar, aprotic solvent. For example, the reaction of 4chlorobutyronitrile with sodium hydroxide in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide produces cyclopropyl cyanide in high yield.
