Abstract
Abstract An electromagnetic suspension and/or guide system, especially for magnetically suspended vehicles, comprises a U-section electromagnet yoke carrying a coil wound from a light-metal band, the shanks of the U reaching toward a U-section rail or armature on a support track. The cross-section of the core shanks diminishes from the web enveloped by the coil toward the pole surface substantially in proportion to the flux through the shank, while the pole surface projects longitudinally at each end beyond the web over substantially the full height of the coil. The core is preferably of a laminated construction.
