Abstract

Abstract A foundation spring unit is disclosed, the unit comprising a plurality of coil springs arranged in longitudinally extending columns and transversely extending rows. An outer border wire extends around the unit and is connected to the coil springs at the periphery and a central support member is provided at approximately the central one-third of the unit. The support member comprises a substantially rectangular peripheral element and preferably two elongated connecting elements. The connecting elements are disposed parallel to one another and to the end portions of the peripheral element, and are connected to the edge portions of the peripheral element. These connecting elements extend diametrically across and are connected to the coil springs of a respective one of said transverse rows, and the central portion of the foundation unit is thus reinforced particularly in the transverse direction.
