Abstract
Abstract A cargo-handling system particularly suited for use in loading and unloading cargo carriers, characterized by a cargo conveyor for positioning cargo at selected and convenient locations within a carrier, such as a truck, and a cargo delivery transport including a delivery conveyor for delivering cargo to and from the cargo positioning conveyor, whereby the efficiency and economy of cargo-handling operations are enhanced.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
170 words
In a cargo positioning unit for a carrier having a cargo compartment, the improvement comprising: A. a horizontally oriented, endless conveyor supported within said compartment including an idler sprocket assembly and a driven sprocket assembly, said sprocket assemblies being supported for rotation about a pair of mutually spaced horizontally oriented axes, a plurality of horizontally extended endless chains trained about said sprocket assemblies and a cargo supporting platform comprising a plurality of horizontally extended juxtaposed flight bars arranged in mutual parallelism fixed to said chains; B. a traveling bulkhead having a cargo-engaging face of a substantially planar configuration projected vertically from the plane of said cargo supporting platform; and C. support means for supporting said bulkhead in juxtaposition with a selected flight bar including a pair of tracks extended along opposite sides of said conveyor, a pair of cars, each of said cars including rolling members coupled in a confined relationship with one of said tracks, and means for releasibly coupling said cars with the opposite ends of said bulkhead.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
56 words
The improvement of claim 1 wherein said means for releasibly coupling said cars with said bulkhead includes a plate disposed in a vertically oriented plane in juxtaposition with said bulkhead and affixed to one of said cars, means defining within said plate an opening, and a button seated in said opening and affixed to said bulkhead.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
30 words
The improvement of claim 2 wherein said support means further includes a plurality of vertically oriented cross bars projected downwardly from said bulkhead into engagement with said selected flight bar.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim

In a cargo positioning unit for a carrier having a cargo compartment, the improvement comprising: A. a horizontally oriented endless conveyor supported within said compartment including a plurality of horizontally extended endless chains and a cargo-supporting platform comprising a plurality of horizontally extended juxtaposed flight bars arranged in mutual parallelism and affixed to said chains; B. a traveling bulkhead having a cargo-engaging face of a substantially planar configuration projected vertically from the plane of said platform and including a plurality of vertically oriented flight bars extended between a pair of juxtaposed flight bars; and C. support means for supporting said bulkhead including a pair of tracks extended along opposite ends of said conveyor, a pair of cars, each having a plurality of rolling members coupled in a confined relationship with one of said tracks, and means for releasably coupling said cars with said bulkhead, including a vertically oriented plate extended from each of said cars into juxtaposition with said bulkhead, means defining within each of said plates an opening, and means including a button seated in the opening of each of said plates and rigidly affixed to said bulkhead.
