Abstract

Abstract For receiving elongated elements, in particular ''''angles'''' and the like, an apparatus which includes an inclined surface along which the elements are permitted to slide laterally into a receiving notch. Counterweighted pivotal finger members protrude through slots at the receiving notch. The finger members absorb the sideward force of the elongated elements while at the same time exerting a retaining action thereon which serves to prevent elements entering the receiving notch from turning or flipping. The finger members are designed to recede into their respective slots as each element is removed from the receiving notch, and to thereafter return to their operative positions in preparation for receipt of the next element.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 181 words
Apparatus for laterally receiving elongated elements comprising in combination: a downwardly inclined support surface along which elongated elements deposited thereon are permitted to move laterally towards the lower end thereof, an upwardly extending lip cooperating with the lower end of said support surface to define a notch for receiving the elements moving along said support surface, a slot extending through said lip into the adjacent lower portion of said support surface, holding means pivotally mounted for movement about an axis extending in a direction transverse to the length of said slot, said holding means being provided with a shoulder, a finger and a counterweight portion, stop means extending across said slot, said holding means being rotatable about said axis under the influence of said counterweight portion to an operative position at which the said shoulder is in contact with said stop means and said finger protrudes upwardly through said slot at the junction of Said lip with said support surface, whereupon an elongated element laterally entering said notch will be yieldingly engaged by said finger and prevented from turning or flipping.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 181 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 137 words
Apparatus for laterally receiving elongated elements, comprising: a downwardly inclined surface having an upturned lip at its lower end which cooperates with said surface to form a notch, the inclination of said surface being such that elongated elements deposited thereon will slide laterally downwardly into said notch; a slot in said surface and said lip extending laterally across said notch; a fixed stop member adjacent to said slot; holding means mounted for pivotal movement in said slot about an axis extending transversally relative to said slot, said holding means having an element engaging finger, a shoulder and a counterweight section, the said counterweight section being effective to rotatably urge said holding means into an operative position with said shoulder contacting said stop member and with said element engaging finger protruding upwardly through said slot into said notch.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
The apparatus as claimed in claim 2 wherein said element engaging member cooperates with said inclined surface to define an acute angle therebetween when said holding means is in said operative position.
